In view of the importance of standardizing the methods of sampling and testing of clay building bricks, an Iraqi quality standard has been prepared in the year 1969 and revised in the years 1978, 1981, 1985. However it has always been a draft. Afterwards it was revised in 1988 and this revision included a change in the method of testing for water absorption and the deletion of the test for dissolved salts content.
